# Language and conversation

Set the agent's default language and the maximum lifetime of a text conversation in Agent Studio.

## Choose the default language

The **Language** control currently accepts Indonesian (`id`) or English (`en`). Choose the language that matches the system prompt and first message. Operade does not rewrite an authored prompt or greeting when this setting changes, so update those fields yourself when switching languages.

Test at least one normal question and one ambiguous question in the selected language. Start a new conversation after changing the setting because an open conversation keeps its starting configuration.

## Set conversation duration

**Maximum conversation duration** accepts 30 to 3,600 seconds. When the limit is reached, the conversation closes. Choose a value long enough for the intended task without treating one connection as permanent.

The current agent conversation configuration is text-only. If the built-in `end_call` tool is enabled, the agent can say goodbye and close the conversation when its work is complete.

## Troubleshoot behavior

- If the greeting is in the wrong language, check both **Language** and the authored **First message**.
- If a changed setting seems ignored, end the open chat and start another one.
- If a conversation ends earlier than expected, confirm that the duration is within the supported range and inspect whether `end_call` was enabled.

See [prompt and first message](/docs/agents/prompt-and-first-message) for authored language and [test chat](/docs/agents/test-chat) for configuration snapshot behavior.
