# Add knowledge sources

Owners and admins can add authored text, uploaded files, public web pages, and folders from Knowledge Base.

## Create text or upload files

Select **Create Text** to enter a named text document. Created text is limited to 2 MB.

Select **Add Files** for `.txt`, `.md`, `.pdf`, `.docx`, `.html`, or `.epub`. Each uploaded file is limited to 20 MB, and its extracted text must also fit the text-content limit. Uploads are processed in sequence; one failed file does not prevent later queued files from being attempted.

PDFs need an extractable text layer. Image-only scanned PDFs are not processed with OCR. Password-protected or corrupted files are rejected.

## Import a URL

Select **Add URL**, provide an `http` or `https` address, choose a folder, and submit. The imported response must be public text, Markdown, or HTML and stay within 2 MB.

Operade rejects private addresses, loopback addresses, link-local addresses, and other non-public network destinations. It rechecks redirected destinations. A page that depends on browser-side JavaScript can produce no readable text because URL import does not render the page as a browser.

## Verify ingestion

1. Find the new document in Knowledge Base.
2. Confirm that its status changes from `indexing` to `ready`.
3. Open the item and inspect the source, size, content, and chunk information.
4. If the status is `failed`, fix or replace the source instead of attaching it to an agent.

Use [limits and troubleshooting](/docs/knowledge/limits-and-troubleshooting) for specific failures, then [organize](/docs/knowledge/organize) or [attach and retrieve](/docs/knowledge/attach-and-retrieve).
