# Workflow canvas and nodes

The canvas is the visual authoring surface for one Workflow. It supports node placement, connections, selection, inspection, and bounded draft history.

## Enable and edit the canvas

Choose **Enable workflow** to create a graph with one Start node. Add a Subagent, Tool, or End node from the toolbar. Drag nodes to arrange them, drag a connection between nodes to create an edge, select a node or edge to edit it, and use Delete or Backspace outside a form field to remove the selection.

Use **Undo** and **Redo** or the standard keyboard shortcuts; the editor keeps up to 100 snapshots. **Fit view** recenters the graph. The authored configuration allows at most 100 nodes, 300 edges, and 20 outgoing edges from one node.

## Understand node types

- **Start** is silent. Exactly one is required, and it may have at most one outgoing edge.
- **Subagent** applies a labeled prompt/resource override and may wait or generate.
- **Tool** requires at least one Tool, can hold up to 10 Tools, and must have an outgoing edge.
- **End** records completion and closes the conversation; it cannot have outgoing edges.

Disconnected nodes and a Start node with no edge are permitted, but they will not be reached. Labels and stable IDs make [Activity](/docs/monitor/transcript-and-activity) records diagnosable.

## Reset without losing other work

**Reset workflow** restores the published Workflow. If no published Workflow exists, reset disables the draft Workflow. Reset does not discard Agent, Analysis, Procedure, or other branch changes. Confirm the reset carefully, then use Undo only if the resulting state is still available in the current editor history.
