Test Chat errors
Test Chat runs the selected draft or version through the real text-agent path. It is the safest place to diagnose behavior before publishing, but its conversation state is still frozen when the chat begins.
Symptom#
The socket closes, a second message is rejected while the first is processing, the conversation has already ended, or a guardrail stops output. Changes made in the editor do not appear inside a chat that was already opened.
Cause#
conversation_busy prevents overlapping turns from mutating one conversation concurrently. conversation_ended indicates the chat reached an end reason and cannot accept another turn. guardrail_failed means a configured safety evaluation could not complete safely. Existing chats keep their frozen draft or version snapshot; saving later changes does not rewrite them.
Verify#
Wait for the current turn to finish before sending another message. Inspect the conversation end reason and Activity. Confirm whether Test Chat says it is using a draft, and open a fresh chat after configuration changes. Record the agent, branch, draft or version context, UTC time, and public error code.
Recovery#
For a busy chat, wait and retry the message once. For an ended chat, start a new Test Chat. For guardrail failures, verify the guardrail configuration and evaluator model, then retest. If quota stopped the chat, follow Quota errors rather than repeatedly reopening chats.
Escalation#
Escalate when a new Test Chat consistently fails with the same frozen configuration. Include safe identifiers, the last visible Activity type, end reason, timestamp, and code. Never include customer content, prompt text, or credentials. See Test Chat and Transcript and Activity.

conversation_busy— another turn already owns this conversation.conversation_ended— the conversation is closed; start a new one.guardrail_failed— a guardrail evaluation could not complete safely.
Retesting in the same ended conversation is not a valid recovery because its snapshot and terminal state do not change.
